Aroma Medicine (Part 002)

from: http://tw.myblog.yahoo.com/cclin-aromamedicine/article?mid=2583

Do you know -
Who defined "Aroma Medicine" first?
What are essential oils?
What are essential fatty acids?

HTPO and LTPO - In AMRCC, I also call EFAs as High Temperature Plant Oils, HTPO, because it atmospheric pressure boiling point (APBP) is very high. How high is very high? AMRCC define 180 degree Celsius to be very high. For example, the broiling point of olive oil is about 300 degree Celsius. HTPO normally can not be dissolved in alcohol.

Skin care professionals also call oils in fatty acids form as carrier oils. In AMRCC, most of the carrier oils used are high in unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) because AMRCC finds UFAs have the essential nutrition for the needs of human cells and healthy hormones.

Same as EFAs, essential oils (EOs) are oil-base particles that are extracted from plant. The big difference is that most essential oils evaporate below 80 degree Celsius and most of them evaporate under 40 degree Celsius. Because of low evaporating point, they are also called plant volatile oils. AMRCC sometimes refer essential oils as “Low Temperature Plant Oils”, or LTPO. Eos can also be called as “Low Temperature Essential Oil, LTEOs” or “Natural Aromatic Oils, NAO”.

Human can not produce essential oils inside human body. Essentials can only be produced through photosynthesis in the plants.

* Mr Kenn Lin also names “Essential Fatty Acids” as High Temperature Plant Oils, HTPO; and “Essential Oils” as Low Temperature Plant Oils, LTPO.

Defining Aroma Medicine?

The study of “Aroma Medicine” was established in 2001 when I started to receive research fundings from government of Canada. The purpose is to emphasize on the science of natural medicine using the 8th nutrition – essential oils. Therefore, Aroma medicine can also be called as “Eighth Nutrition Medicine”, or ENM. Aroma Medicine only uses natural aroma ingredients from plants and does not suggest the use of synthetic fragrant oils.

* Mr Kenn Lin invented Aroma Medicine in 2001. Aroma Medicine can also be called as ENM, the 8th Nutrition Medicine.

Each essential oil is extracted from different parts of the plants such as: flowers, leaves, woods, barks, roots, seeds and peel …etc. For example, the essential oil from orange peel is called orange oil. The essential oil from orange flower is called neroli oil. The essential oil from orange leave is called petitgrain. These 3 oils are all from orange but have different names because they come from different parts of the plant.

Essential oil normally contains 10-30 traceable elements. Each element has particle size of 100-700 atomic weight (1/12 weight of C12 carbon, or roughly the weight of a proton). The dimension of essential oil is smaller than nanometer. Therefore the essential oil science is a microscopic science that requires more precision than nanometer science.

Essential oils have high penetrating ability through the skin because its particle size is small, viscosity is low and cohesion is high.

* Aroma Medicine is a sub-nanometer health science.

Each kilogram of essential oil comes from about 200-10,000 kilograms of plants. This is why essential oil price is high.

AMRCC uses essential oils mainly in the following health related studies-

1.      Anti microbes: mainly anti bacterial (AB), anti fungal (AF) and anti viral (AV). In AMRCC, the combination of 3 is called AAA.

2.      Anti inflammatory (AI)

3.      Anti tumor

4.      Hormones disorder relief

5.      Lymph detoxification and enhancement

6.      Pain relief, itch relief

7.      Sun care and heat burn relief

8.      Insect repelling

9.      Improving body health and organ functions

10.  Anti aging and skin healing

11.  Fat management and weight management

12.  Mental disorder and stress relief

Some diseases and symptoms are related to multiple reasons. For example, infertility can be from the hormone disorders which cause POS – polycystic ovarian syndrome. The relief could involve food intake change such as eating flax seed oil because its alpha linolenic acids can be transformed into PGE3 that participates in anti inflammation of ovary system and vicinities. For short term relief, AMRCC uses AI type of essential oils for healing and deep tissue massage. These AI type essential oils include geranium, lavender, tea tree, chamomile, patchouli, violet … etc.

2 other important concepts are very important when studying Aroma Medicine. Firstly, one needs to dissolve oil based particles in water before your body can use these ingredients for health improvement.  Second concept is that in order to get best health benefit, the essential oils need to work with other 8 types of nutrition. Therefore, you normally need to add some water soluble nutrients into healing cream. Unlike synthetic chemicals that substitute your body functions, these natural phyto nutrients work together to regenerate your body functions and to cure diseases in a long term way.
